THE IMPORTANCE OF INSPIRATION cannot be overlooked, dismissed, or undervalued. Inspiration can be drawn from the grandest scales, down to something as simple as a crack in the wall. For LIPSTOCK, inspiration serves as a major ingredient.

Someone who depended upon and personified the depths and heights of inspiration, from his immediate surroundings, is the late Alexander McQueen. He discovered and cultivated his creative energy in his native Scotland, mastered the craft of tailoring, working in London’s Savile Row, and entered the world of privilege and exclusivity, designing for two of Paris’ leading haute couture houses.

McQueen poured onto the world of fashion, inspiration from the light and dark experiences drawn from his personal life; his influences from studying nature’s organic beauty and effortless evolution, history, futurism, the human condition, social conditions and status, to name a few. Taking from his life what he witnessed with a heightened consciousness, he communicated the inspiration he received into fabric, drape, line, color, construction, seam, silhouette, texture, layer, finish, grace, edge, elegance, sophistication, concepts and stories, evolving his models and fashion shows into actors for performance art pieces. He was an artist where fashion served as his medium, expressing to the world his vision of what clothing can do and be for the wearer – a shared experience blurring the lines of judgment, with a new perspective not just of oneself, but of life.
